It was chaos on the red carpet-lined Queen St. W. last night for the 17th annual MuchMusic Video Awards -- Canada's trendiest and kookiest celebrity schmooze.
The scene on the red carpet was as loud and frenzied as usual, but lacked the excitement and surprise of previous years.
There were no military tanks, no aerobics squad and no glittery cat fights.
But there was no lack of buzz, mostly surrounding the much-hyped arrival of Paris Hilton -- who, when asked what her favourite music video of the past year was, responded with "my music video" and a look that clearly said "obviously."
For those who care, Hilton recently shot the video for the first single from her upcoming album called (surprise, surprise) Paris -- released of course through Heiress Records, her own record label.
BUM DEAL: Hedley's Jacob Hoggard wasted no time showing off the strategically placed tattoo of his band's name -- which inevitably lead to him mooning us. Oddly, he and his bandmates were in handcuffs and accompanied by two scantily clad phony female police officers.
"MuchMusic thought it would be safer if we were handcuffed," said Hoggard. "But win or lose, we'll still be drunk and having a great f--king time."
BOY WILL BE BOY: Unlike last year, the Backstreet Boys' Howie D. was not in the running for an award -- nor was he there for anything Backstreet-related. He was escorting someone named George, a new artist apparently co-managed by the Backstreet Boy. That didn't stop the girls' screams for Howie to wave at them, though.
"I feel blessed to still be recognized," he said.
MASSARI MUCHO: Five-time nominee Massari, who arrived with his entourage in orange and yellow Lamborghinis ("to go with my lady's outfit") made it clear he doesn't like to lose.
"I love walking the red carpet, you feel like a million bucks, but my least favourite thing is not winning," he said. "But being an independent artist, I'm very surprised I'm nominated five times, so I already feel like a champion."
what's the story, TORI?: Presenter Tori Spelling and new hubby Canadian actor Dean McDermott snuggled their way down the red carpet and quashed all pregnancy rumours along the way.
"I think I've been rumoured to be pregnant five times since we've been together," said Spelling. "I'm not."
Spelling also raved about the unique open-concept MMVA format.
"I love that it's outdoors and more casual," she said. "I love Toronto. It's my second time here. The first time it was snowing."
Added McDermott : "Trust me, she likes it better this time!"
MODEL CITIZEN: America's Next Top Model's Jay Manuel swears the next season is the most drama-filled yet.
"Honestly, it's got the most drama we've had," he said. "It got a little rough and I got caught up in a lot of it."
METRIC CONVERSION: Metric's leading lady Emily Haines was not her usual uber-stylish self in a wrinkled shirt held together with safety pins, shorts and a stained purse.
"We just got into town and I really haven't had any time to prepare," she said. "I did get a friend to add the safety pins to my shirt before I came, though."
