EBay offered fake nude Shania?

TIMMINS, Ont. — A German music fan found more than he bargained for while shopping on EBay for Shania Twain collectibles.

Peter Werner got an eyeful of a racy calendar featuring his favourite artist.

The long-time Twain fan was enraged.

Someone was selling what was purported to be a calendar with photographs of Twain posing in the nude.

The photos were actually doctored so that the head of the Timmins songstress appeared on the body of a nude model.

Werner, who is from Weiterstadt near Frankfurt, felt the manipulated photos were degrading to Twain.

“The item was posted briefly last week on EBay.de, the German branch of the worldwide online shopping and auction website,” Werner said. “It has since been removed from the site.”

Tracy Hautanen, manager of the Shania Twain Centre, said she didn’t see the calendar but she routinely receives calls and e-mails from fans around the world reporting unauthentic items supposedly belonging to or used by Twain.

She said the Shania Twain Centre forwards those complaints to Twain’s management despite the fact the museum is not really set up to be a reporting centre for unauthorized materials being sold.

“We’ve been contacted in the past specifically about outfits that for auction that she has supposedly worn. Ironically, some of those outfits that we’ve seen on EBay are here in our collection,” said Hautanen.

“Typically, we just contact her management to make sure they’re aware of it and then they follow through with EBay or wherever the auction may be taking place.”
