Cdn. 'Flashpoint' star signs record deal

TORONTO - "Flashpoint" star Hugh Dillon says he's signed a record deal with Warner Music Canada and plans to release his solo debut in the fall.

Dillon, who found success as a musician in the '90s with the hard-rocking band the Headstones, says an album called "Works Well With Others" is slated for release in October.

He describes the sound as a "little more Leonard Cohen and less Lemmy from Motorhead." It was produced by Paul Langlois of the Tragically Hip.

Although he's best known as an actor these days, Dillon says he's never stopped writing music and has supplied songs for both of his TV crime shows.

Dillon stars on CTV's "Flashpoint" and the dark serial "Durham County" on The Movie Network and Movie Central.

"Durham County"'s second season kicks off July 13.

Dillon said he's proud of the new music and is looking forward to the album's release.

"I'd written and released these little indie records but it's odd to have a major label deal," Dillon said Monday.

"I love these songs, I love the melody, I love the fact that we put them all together and they rock."

Dillon's in the midst of shooting a new batch of episodes for "Flashpoint," but says he's also in talks with director Bruce McDonald about a possible sequel to his breakout film, "Hard Core Logo."

If the script and financing plans come together, Dillon says they'd like to beginning shooting next summer.

"We were still deciding which way to go with it because, you know, the guy's dead so you've got to explain that," Dillon says of his doomed character, the self-destructive lead singer Joe Dick.

"Or maybe he isn't (dead). You know, that's where we're at."
