J.Lo: 'It's time to leave Idol'

Jennifer Lopez is seriously considering quitting her role as a talent judge on American Idol, insisting it's time for her to move on to "other things I love to do".

The singer/actress has sat on the judging panel beside rocker Steven Tyler and producer Randy Jackson for the past two seasons of the TV competition, and while Lopez has yet to settle on a final decision about her future on the program, she doubts she will be back when the upcoming 12th season debuts later this year.

The superstar, who is about to embark on a huge North American tour with Enrique Iglesias, tells the Today Show, "I've loved it (being on American Idol) so much. I've enjoyed the show so much. I enjoy just the whole process of the show... It's a tough decision either way, but I have to say there are so many things I do that I put on hold for that. It's a heartbreaking decision if I have to go.

"Little by little I am (moving closer to a final decision)... All I can let you in on is my own thought process with it because that's where I truly am... I love everybody, I love all the guys on the show, I love the family that's there... but I am thinking it's time for me to go and do other things I love to do."

The latest Idol reports suggest producers are now looking to recruit new celebrities to front a revamped version of the program, with 2009 runner-up Adam Lambert, rapper will.i.am, Miley Cyrus and Fergie all favourites to join the show as new judges in a bid to compete with rival talent shows The X Factor and The Voice.

Lambert played down the speculation this week, but admitted he would be interested in discussing a potential job, saying, "If Idol wants to talk to me about judging, I'd be more than flattered to have that conversation."

Katy Perry, another star who admits she has been approached by producers of the show, has revealed she said no because American Idol would be too much of a commitment for her.
