A film about James Brown was in the works before his death in 2006 with a script that had already been rewritten once. Wesley Snipes was set to play the Godfather of Soul, but the film has moved to a back burner. (QMI Agency files)

James Brown’s daughter has been arrested in Georgia amid allegations of vehicle theft, assault and battery.

Hope Campbell called Augusta police on Monday morning after she reportedly spotted her employee Venisha Brown driving her SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle), which had been stolen last Sunday.

She told cops that she had tried to snatch the keys of the Chevrolet Suburban by reaching into the vehicle, but was injured as Brown allegedly accelerated, dragging Campbell along as her body hit another car parked nearby.

The driver fled the scene and officers recovered the SUV hours later, which had been dumped early on Tuesday.

Authorities were later called to investigate an altercation in the area, where Brown was said to have been found arguing with another woman.

She was handcuffed and booked for possession of a stolen vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident and first-degree assault and battery, and is currently being held in a North Augusta jail.

Venisha Brown is one of the Godfather of Soul's nine children. The music legend died in 2006.
