Nickelback rocker Chad Kroeger and his new fiancee Avril Lavigne became engaged less than eight weeks after they first started dating.
The How You Remind Me hitmaker stunned fans last month by announcing he had proposed to Lavigne after a whirlwind romance.
Kroeger grew close to the pop punk earlier this year after teaming up with her in the recording studio, but it wasn't until July 1 that their relationship officially turned romantic, and the 37-year-old admits the Canada Day date will always have special meaning for the pair.
He tells America's People magazine, "We met while recording music in March. But we started dating July 1... We think it's very cool that our anniversary will always be on Canada Day. We can't wait to start our life together. We're very happy."
The newly-engaged couple managed to keep its courtship completely out of the headlines and Kroeger reveals love blossomed for him and his wife-to-be while on a romantic getaway in Mexico.
He says, "We've been spending time in Cabo. I have a great hideaway there."
But Kroeger is well-aware of the pressures fame will have on their personal lives and they are already trying to work around his band's upcoming tour of Europe.
He adds, "She'll come over and spend some time (with me) when she's got time. They're going to throw a lot of stuff on her plate with the new record... Just trying to find time where we can get together with two busy schedules is going to be a lifelong challenge."
