There's just no place where Howard Wolowitz can get away from his mom.

Even outer space.

That's one of the story lines in the sixth-season debut of the most popular television show in Canada, The Big Bang Theory. The new episode, titled The Date Night Variable, airs Thursday on CBS and CTV.

As you'll recall from the fifth-season finale, Howard (played by Simon Helberg) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) now are married. They rushed the wedding because Howard had just been scheduled to go on a space mission.

Now Howard is in space, where he quickly gets caught in the middle of a dispute between his new wife and his domineering mother. Apparently guilt does not recognize the boundaries of earth.

"You listen to me," Howard's mom -- who we never see but only hear -- tells him during an earth-to-spaceship phone call. "If you want to be a man, never let a woman tell you want to do!"

Meanwhile, back on the ground, Raj (Kunal Nayyar) feels like a third wheel no matter where he turns, with his buddy Howard up in the sky and the rest of the gang out on dates.
