A representative for Christina Aguilera has dismissed a story attributed to Billboard magazine, in which the pop star opens up about her weight battles with record executives.
Over the weekend several news outlets picked up the bogus online article, which featured remarks allegedly made by the Fighter hitmaker.
Aguilera was quoted as saying she was urged by label bosses to drop 15 pounds in 2002 out of fear her curvy figure would be bad for business.
The quotes read, "They called this serious emergency meeting about how there was a lot of backlash about my weight. Basically, they told me I would affect a lot of people if I gained weight - the production, musical directors... (They claimed) people I toured with would also miss out if I gained weight because I would sell no records or tickets for my shows."
But a spokesperson for the singer has lashed out at the gossip blogs and websites that picked up the article, revealing the words never came from Aguilera's mouth and were plucked out of thin air: "The quotes are 100% false. She never said them to Billboard and Billboard never printed or posted them. They are fake."
