Aguilera's trouble with curves
By Steve Tilley, QMI Agency

Christina Aguilera never said she was a fat girl

The other day, Christina Aguilera was fat and happy. Now, she's neither.

There's a kerfuffle kerfuffling its way around the Internet as dozens of news and entertainment websites scramble to correct a story about the 31-year-old singer, who was quoted as telling her record label, "'You are working with a fat girl, know it now and get over it.' They need a reminder sometimes that I don't belong to them -- it's my body."

Except she didn't actually say that, or anything remotely like that. The fabricated quotes appear to have come from a Tumblr post which claimed they were excerpts of a Billboard magazine interview with Aguilera. The interview? Real. The quotes? Not real. Aguilera? Very angry. Fact checking before publishing? Bah, who needs it!

Which is too bad, really. The idea that Xtina would say a big eff you to an industry obsessed with her size was, at least briefly, liberating. Sure, she's put on weight since she was a 19-year-old ingenue. Big shock -- who hasn't? But if anything, she's sexier than she's ever been. When did having boobs and a butt become a bad thing?

Eventually, we as a culture will wrap our heads around the notion that normal women don't look like models or movie starlets, and that attractiveness is independent of size. Here's a sampling of our current favourite sexy anti-waifs.

Rebel Wilson

The hilarious Aussie actress stole her brief scenes in Bridesmaids and is getting tons of buzz for her role in the recently released comedy Pitch Perfect, including an appearance on The Tonight Show that saw her belt out a rousing rendition of a Lady Gaga song.

Why we love her: Sexy and super funny.

Adele

The 24-year-old (and currently pregnant) Brit singer is constantly dogged by scrutiny of her figure, and maybe we're not helping that by including her here. But it would be nice to read something about her that didn't include mentions of her size.

Why we love her: Sexy and astonishingly talented.

Christina Hendricks

The stunning Mad Men star is another Hollywood actress who has endured remarks about her body, but what's great about Hendricks is she doesn't seem remotely interested in shedding any weight. Thank goodness. Those amazing curves must be protected at all costs.

Why we love her: Sexy and sexy and sexy.

Melissa McCarthy

Another Bridesmaids breakout -- heck, she won an Oscar for it -- we can't wait to see McCarthy throat-punch Jason Bateman in next spring's Identity Thief, or go up against Paul Rudd in December's This Is 40. Or even just sit there and read a phone book.

Why love her: Sexy and a comedic genius.

Jennifer Livingston

Before this week, you'd probably never heard of Livingston. But the TV news anchor in La Crosse, Wisc., is making headlines for an on-air segment in which she responded to a viewer who chastised her via email for being overweight. The video and its anti-bullying message have gone viral and earned her support from around the world.

Why we love her: Sexy and brave as hell.
