LOS ANGELES -- Sandy Rogen and singer Barbra Streisand were first introduced by telephone earlier this year by Sandy's famous son, Seth. According to published reports, the comedian dialled his mother and passed the phone to the famous singer as the pair filmed the upcoming comedy, The Guilt Trip.

But the connection between Sandy, a retired Vancouver social worker, and Babs has apparently grown.

According to a neighbourhood source of Streisand, the singer recently invited Sandy over for dinner to her Malibu home, along with Seth and his wife, Lauren Miller.

"Barbra loved Seth and she loved playing his mother in the movie, and she wanted to meet her," the source told QMI.

The two women apparently have a lot in common. They're both proud to be "Jewish mothers" and also share a fondness for Reiki, a trendy Japanese spiritual and physical healing process.

"Barbra liked it that she wasn't impressed with her celebrity status. She thinks Sandy is a real mentch."

Streisand, one of the few entertainers who has won an Oscar, an Emmy, a Grammy and a Tony Award, is one of the most successful performers in modern history and does have a big reputation as a "diva."

Presumably, any regular Jane would quake in her stilettos at the thought of an intimate dinner with the regal 70-year-old.

But Sandy -- Rogen has famously described his mother and father, Mark, as "radical Jewish socialists" -- is said to be more impressed with kindness than money or status.

There may have been more than one dinner party with the new friends as Rogen's new home is only a few miles away from where Streisand and hunky husband James Brolin live on Malibu beach.

In fact, there was another report that the Rogens and Streisand/Brolin also met within the past few weeks for dinner at the Malibu restaurant Moonshadows. It was unclear if Sandy or Mark were included that particular night.
