Rock stars are more likely than the rest of us to die young — and solo performers are almost twice as likely as musicians in bands to die early, a new study has found.

Researchers at Liverpool John Moores University looked at 1,489 rock and pop stars in Europe and North America who were famous between 1956 and 2006.

More stars in North America died, even though they were typically younger and became famous more recently. The median ages of death for the 137 stars who died was 45.2 in North America and 39.6 in Europe.
