Jean-Francois Champagne will tweet no more.

The Montreal man has been sent to a psychiatrist and banned from using social media after he sent menacing messages to various celebrities and media figures in Quebec.

A shrink has decided Champagne has a personality disorder and needs psychiatric treatment, not jail, but this type of Internet crime -- uttering threats and harassment -- is attracting more legal attention every day.

And not a moment too soon. Fans of such celebrities as Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber regularly threaten anyone who dares say a bad word about their idol.

And nothing gets done about it.

There's an escalating Twitter war on right now, for example, between Lady Gaga and Kelly Osbourne/Sharon Osbourne/Joan Rivers (that's three against one!) over the way Lady Gaga's fans use Twitter.

Kelly Osbourne has said that Lady Gaga's fans tweet violent and cruel things to her.
