Okay, so Beyonce lip-synched The Star-Spangled Banner at President Obama's Inauguration 2.0.

And the Marine Corps Band didn't play while the pre-recorded version was running. Anybody want to bust THEIR chops about it?

Still, in a slow news week, it was the stuff of scandal when Ms Knowles-Carter failed to match the game shown by Kelly Clarkson (whose frozen-lipped My Country 'Tis Of Thee shone) and '70s icon James Taylor, who gamely performed America, The Sensitive, um, I mean Beautiful.

But she joins a pantheon of controversial anthem singers. We'll save a spot at the end for two famous pummelings of the Canadian anthem.

ROSEANNE: Never known as a singer, she was recruited to sing the anthem at a San Diego Padres game in July, 1990. She gleefully crowed her way through, grabbed her crotch and spat on the ground. Then-president George H.W. Bush dubbed the performance "a disgrace."
