Soul superstar Prince has taken aim at Maroon 5 for recording a cover version of his hit song Kiss, insisting their rendition adds nothing new to the classic track.
The Moves Like Jagger hitmakers, fronted by Adam Levine, included their take on the 1986 tune on their latest album Overexposed, but Prince has made it clear he is not a fan.
In a candid interview with Billboard magazine, he says, “Why do we need to hear another cover of a song someone else did? Art is about building a new foundation, not just laying something on top of what’s already there.”
However, the music icon claims he has no problem with other artists performing his tunes during live shows - it’s just album covers which annoy him.
