Toronto jazz crooner Matt Dusk will admit it's ironic.
The guy who's made his living singing and recording romantic standards for just over a decade had to delay his Valentine's Day plans this week to promote his just-released new album, My Funny Valentine: The Chet Baker Songbook, recorded with an 80-piece orchestra.
Good thing he had something nice in mind for his common-law wife, Julita, once the work is done.
"I think what we're going to is a nice romantic bubble bath at home," said Dusk, 34.
"We're trying to have kids now. It's so tough when you're not home. If I come home and she's pregnant there's something to worry about. The biggest thing for us is time."
We caught up with Dusk recently, who will tour Canada in September, to talk about his interest in Baker - the legendary '50s West Coast cool jazz trumpeter-singer-heroin addict who died at the age of 58 in 1988 in Amsterdam.
