Mark Wahlberg has warned troubled pop star Justin Bieber to quit Twitter and "take a vacation" amid fears the teenager is on the verge of a meltdown.

The Fighter star, who has previously been in talks to work with Bieber on a movie project, admits he has concerns for the young singer following a series of headline-grabbing incidents which have sparked fears for his well-being in recent weeks.

Wahlberg has now urged the Baby hitmaker to take a break from social networking websites and book a vacation to escape the spotlight for a while.

He tells Vulture.com, "I think it's best to put down the phone and Twitter and all that stuff, and just be a little more low-key right now. Because they're watching every move he makes, everything he says, and less is more. Go take a vacation."

Bieber's troubles came to light during his rocky U.K. tour, which ended in a backstage collapse, a hospitalization and a bust-up with a photographer in London.

He hit headlines again shortly after wrapping his U.K. shows and became the focus of a police investigation when he was accused of spitting in a neighbour's face after he was told to stop speeding his Ferrari around a gated community in California.

The young pop star's life appears to have spiralled out of control since he split from former Disney star Selena Gomez last year.
