Rapper and actor LL Cool J says he never meant to "trivialize slavery."

But that complaint, along with others, greeted LL's much-criticized cultural exchange with country music star Brad Paisley on the song, Accidental Racist. The single appeared on Paisley's album, Wheelhouse.

"We knew we were taking a risk," says LL from L.A., where he's just wrapped the fourth season of NCIS: Los Angeles.

"We knew we were doing something different. I must confess that I thought people would be able to connect the dots ... I would never think that someone would process that song and come up with the idea and draw the conclusion that we were trivializing slavery ... But I guess if you process something incorrectly you could draw any conclusion you want. But that being said, I'm definitely happy that we did the song and glad ... It'll be remembered."

Remembered maybe for the wrong reasons?
