Grammy Award nominee Mary Lambert was sleeping on a friend's sofa and playing gigs for a handful of people, including her mom, when she got the call to work with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

The singer became a break-out star last year when she wrote and performed the chorus to the rap duo's gay rights anthem 'Same Love' and now she can't believe she has come so far so fast.

Lambert says, "When I got the call I was really honoured. We had a mutual friend... She and he (Macklemore) had done spoken word together and so she recommended me; she was like, 'I know a lesbian... that can sing'."
