Didn’t feel like staying up for four hours to sit through “music’s biggest night”? Here are the best and worst moments from last night’s Grammys:

Best moments

1. Was it lip-synching? Does it matter? Beyonce and Jay Z’s steamy Drunk in Love smoldered. Our bet is that more than a few sets clicked off after this opening performance.

2. Macklemore photobombing Lars Ulrich on the red carpet. If you missed it, look it up on Twitter this morning. A year ago, the Seattle rapper wouldn’t have been able to get within a hundred feet of the Grammys. Let that be an inspiration to all you sleepy Jeans!

3. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr join forces for Queenie Eye. It was an inspired new song that allowed the two legends to flex their veteran mojo. Just like mom’s apple pie.

4. Last month it was Antarctica. Last night it was Lang Lang joining them for an inspired reworking of their classic One. Metallica only left us with one question: When’s the new album coming?

5. Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams and Stevie Wonder inject some funk into the evening with a mash-up of Get Lucky/ Freak Out and Another Star. Even Sir Paul got his groove on.

6. Pharrell Williams’ unintentional shout-out to the Mounties with his incredibly goofy hat had Twitter aflutter and by night’s end had its own Twitter account. Even Arby’s got in on the action asking for its hat back.

7. The Grammys started strong and ended stronger. The closing one-two punch of Nine Inch Nails’ Copy of A and Queens of the Stone Age’s My God Is the Sun blew the roof off the Staples Center. However, the TV broadcast credits began to roll before the end and the performance was cut short, leaving outspoken NIN Trent Reznor to colourfully tweet afterwards:

Worst moments

1. Uh, what happened to Roar? Katy Perry skips the best song off Prism for the heavy theatrics of Dark Horse. For Lord of the Rings fans only.

2. Daft Punk accepting their award for Best Pop Duo wearing Storm Trooper helmets. Guys, seriously?

3. P!nk, who hasn’t released an album since 2012, rehashed the aerial dancing she did during her 2010 Grammy performance of Glitter in the Air. Yawn. Recycling day isn’t until Wednesday.

4. Taylor Swift’s dance during Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons’ medley of Radioactive/ M.A.A.D. City was unbelievably awkward. She looked like a glittery piece of wet spaghetti.

5. It wasn't just T-Swizzle who was inspiring bad dancers everywhere. Lorde's creepy moves during Royals had navel-gazing nerds salivating.

6. Typo of the night went to the person who put the Grammys In Memoriam tribute together. Actor/singer Cory Monteith's name was spelt "Montieth."

7. Madonna, is that desperation we smell? Grills are for rappers and twentysomethings.
