Three days after it was announced he would perform at next month’s Juno Awards in Winnipeg, City and Colour’s Dallas Green has decided against it.

In a statement, Green says: “Given that I have not been nominated this year, I would much rather see a new nominee be afforded the opportunity to perform.”

City and Colour’s latest release, 2013’s The Hurry and The Harm, was eligible for nominations but received none.

Green, a Toronto-based three-time Juno winner and seven time nominee with City and Colour, has performed many times on the Juno telecast with his former band Alexisonfire, with City and Colour and during the 2011 tribute to Neil Young.

In his statement, Green says: “I’m sorry to disappoint anyone hoping to see me perform next month, however, I will be back in Winnipeg at the MTS Centre in May as part of my cross Canada tour. I will see you then!”

In response, the Juno Awards issued a statement: “We regretfully accept City and Colour’s decision not to perform ... The Juno awards hold Dallas Green in the highest regard, his performances are always captivating and we look forward to him being a part of the show in future years.”

A replacement performer for City and Colour was not immediately announced.

So far the 2014 Juno Awards performing lineup includes Robin Thicke, Serena Ryder, Walk Off The Earth, and Tegan and Sara - all multiple nominees this year.

The show will be broadcast March 30 on CTV.
