Robin Thicke no-showed the Junos.

The singer and multiple Juno Award nominee was scheduled to be one of the headline performers at MTS Centre Sunday night, but cancelled after being placed on “mandatory vocal rest,” organizers said Sunday morning.

“This is show business, so we’re always prepared for this type of situation,” said John Brunton, executive producer of the two-hour show. “(Sunday) morning’s announcement will not impact what is looking to be a hell of a show.”

Organizers might have seen this coming. Thicke had already postponed concerts on Friday in Palm Springs and Saturday in San Francisco due to the ailment. They were the latest in a growing number of concerts Thicke has postponed in the last five weeks, beginning just before announcing he had separated from his wife of nine years, actress Paula Patton. In each instance, vocal issues were cited for the postponement.

Thicke, the son of actor Alan Thicke, saw his star rise in 2013 with the release of his hit song, Blurred Lines, and a provocative performance alongside Miley Cyrus at the MTV Music Awards that brought the word “twerking” into the lexicon.

The lyrics of that song were criticized this week, with an online petition launched in an attempt to remove the singer from the show due to Thicke’s alleged trivialization of sexual assault.

This isn’t the first time organizers have had to deal with a last-minute cancellation for a Winnipeg-based Junos show. In 2005, the only other time this city has hosted the awards, rock legend and former Winnipegger Neil Young cancelled to have brain surgery just days before he was scheduled to headline the Junos.
