Trust Jack White to put a new spin on Record Store Day — and set a new record in the process.

The multi-talented, multi-tasking musician and entrepreneur has announced plans to produce the World's Fastest Released Record on Saturday, April 19 to mark the seventh annual international celebration of bricks-and-mortar music retailers and the continuing vinyl revival.

According to a press release, White will take to the stage of his Third Man Records complex in Nashville at 10 a.m. to cut a live, direct-to-acetate version of the title song from his upcoming solo album Lazaretto. The master will be sped to a plant that will immediately begin pressing vinyl 45s, while sleeves are printed using pictures taken at the performance. Finally, the assembled singles will be sent back to Third Man, where they will go on sale the same day — with the pressing plant making more copies as long as there are buyers in line.

The bad news? Unless you plan a quick trip to Tennessee — or decide to shell out big bucks once the singles begin popping up for sale online — it's unlikely you'll get your hot little mitts on a copy of White's disc.

But take heart; he's not the only rocker up to something cool on Record Store Day. There are literally hundreds of new releases coming down the pipe — everything from reissued classics to limited-edition pressings, box sets and even all-new offerings from A-list acts. And naturally, it’s available at a participating store near you. See www.recordstoreday.com for the location in your neck of the woods. In the meantime, here are some must-haves to put on your wish list.

• The Arkells | Sing Motown | 7"

If you have seen Max Kerman and his Hamilton rockers turn into soul men live, you know what this is all about. If you have not, prepare to be wowed.

• Blue Rodeo | Diamond Mine | LP on green and blue vinyl

The second album from Canada's alt-country heroes returns in full colour. Looking for something a little folksier? Gordon Lightfoot’s Sundown is also being released on vinyl.

• Bruce Springsteen | American Beauty | 10" EP, 4,000 copies

The Boss dishes up four previously unreleased songs: American Beauty, Cold Spot, Hurry Up Sundown and Hey Blue Eyes. For those who can't get enough Springsteen-related fare, there's also a single from Ronnie Spector & The E-Street Band, titled Say Goodbye to Hollywood/Baby Please Don't Go and also limited to 4,000 copies.

• Cure & Dinosaur Jr | Just Like Heaven | 7"

Robert Smith and J Mascis go back to back on the latest instalment of the Side by Side series. The white-vinyl single features The Cure's Just Like Heaven on one side, with Dino Jr covering the track on the flip.

• The Flaming Lips | 7 Skies H3 LP | Gates of Steel | 7", 7,500 copies

Remember that 24-hour song the Okie oddballs put out a couple of years back? Here it is, reduced to a 43-minute album. And if that's still too long for your attention span, check out their single cover of the Devo classic Gates of Steel.

• Ron Jeremy | Understanding and Appreciating Classical Music with Ron Jeremy | 7"

No, seriously. Apparently, the Hedgehog is actually a classically trained and highly skilled pianist. That’s pianist. With a T.

• LCD Soundsystem | The Long Goodbye: LCD Soundsystem Live at Madison Square Garden | 5LP box

True to its title, this is James Murphy and his band's complete New York farewell concert from 2011, spread across a handful of LPs. If you miss out next week, fear not; it is supposedly slated for wide release in May.

• Mudhoney | On Top: KEXP Presents Mudhoney Live on Top of the Space Needle | LP, 2,700 copies

The Seattle grunge goofballs get high with this 10-song performance at the top of their hometown tourist trap.

• R.E.M. | Unplugged: The Complete 1991 and 2001 Sessions | 4LP box

Another multi-volume live set — this time from the defunct Georgia alt-rockers, who compile both of their MTV acoustic shows into one massive box. The set list includes 11 unaired songs. This one will also be released wide in May.

• Soundgarden | Superunknown: The Singles | 5x10" box

To advance their forthcoming 20th-anniversary reissue of their fourth album, the supersonic Seattle band will release vinyl versions of Spoonman, Fell on Black Days, Black Hole Sun, The Day I Tried to Live and My Wave.

• Chad VanGaalen | I Want You Back | 7", 2,300 copies

The Alberta quirkster raids the vaults for four previously unreleased songs — I Want You Back, Candle, It Must Be Alright, She Calls for Me — none of which will be on his forthcoming album Shrink Dust.

• Various | In Utero, In Tribute, In Entirety | LP

Teenage angst has paid off well: Nirvana's final studio album gets covered by a slate of indie artists including Jay Reatard, Ceremony, Thursday, These Arms Are Snakes, Circa Survive and more.

• Neil Young | Cow Palace 1986 | LP

One of Shakey's umpteen bazillion bootlegs gets an official release. Unless he changes his mind. Which he probably will.
