PARIS HILTON

FURTHER IN TIME
By JANE STEVENSON

VOLUME 3: FURTHER IN TIME
Afro Celt Sound System
(Realworld-Virgin)

The first single from the latest album by these British-based world musicmakers features Peter Gabriel emoting in all his glory.

And the joyful When You're Falling is a good indicator of the mostly upbeat vibe present throughout this 12-track collection. It's an admittedly lighter album than its predecessor, Volume 2: Release, recorded after the East London band's young keyboard player Jo Bruce died suddenly from an asthma attack in 1997.

"Every day you crawl into the night, a fallen angel with your wings set in light," Gabriel sings on the single. "When you hit the ground, everything turns to blue, I can't get through the smoke that's surrounding you."

Also present is Middle-Eastern-music-loving rocker Robert Plant, who takes that passion to a new level on Life Begin Again.

Other standouts are the instrumental Colossus, reminiscent of an Ashley MacIsaac dance song, and the pretty Go On Through, featuring clear-voiced newcomer Pina.

This album also marks the first time vocalist-lyricist Iaria O'Lionaird has penned his lyrics in English.

Afro Celt Sound System open for the Dave Matthews Band at the Molson Amphitheatre on Aug. 10. (More on: Afro Celt Sound System).
