GOOD TIMES
Afroman
(T-Bones/Universal)
There are two kinds of people: Ones who dig Cheech & Chong movies and ... oh, man, are those Doritos? Don't bogart those things, dude. Pass 'em around.
What were we talking about? Oh yeah, Afroman. He's this rapper from California who's sorta like a combination between Cypress Hill and Cheech and Chong, with some Blowfly, Two Live Crew, Humpty Hump and Tha Alkaholiks tossed in.
If you haven't already heard the blunted humour of his novelty hit Because I Got High, well, just ask your kids; they've already seen it on Much. Not to worry; the song's all good fun about how dope robs you of your ambition ("I was gonna go to court / Until I got high").
This major-label debut (mostly compiled from two earlier indie albums) also praises drink (Let's All Get Drunk, Tall Cans) and sex to a homemade soundtrack of basic beatboxes and basslines.
Sure it's stupid and sophomoric. But it's also, ahem, a hoot. So listen with a bud. And fork over those 'Ritos, amigo.
