Album Review: Agnostic Front

DEAD YUPPIES
By DARRYL STERDAN

DEAD YUPPIES
Agnostic Front
(Epitaph)

If anything ages faster than dogs, it's punk bands. But here are Agnostic Front, celebrating their 20th birthday and still barking up a storm like they did when they were young pups. Dead Yuppies, their 11th full-length, is, by our count, their 11th disc of straight-on, full-throttle, hypercharged hardcore power and outrage. The hellbent-for-leather drumming, the buzzsaw guitar riffs, the street-gang choruses and Roger Miret's bellowed Noo Yawk vocals will be familiar to anyone who's listened to a hardcore album made before 1990. But so what if these old hounds haven't learned any new tricks? After all, they're the ones who invented most of them in the first place. The only one they haven't learned, it seems, is how to play dead.
