Grammy winning pop diva Christina Aguilera will perform at Winnipeg Arena on July 13, according to information released yesterday on the Pollstar concert website.
A spokeswoman for Toronto-based concert promoters Core Audience confirmed Aguilera will play in the 'Peg, but couldn't release details yesterday.
"Yes, I can say that Christina Aguilera will be coming to Winnipeg," Melissa Bubb-Clarke said. "But the whole deal isn't done yet. We're not sure who she's coming with yet. The dates are set, but all the venues aren't confirmed on paper yet.
"We hope to have everything confirmed by the first week of May."
The concert will be part of an eight-city Canadian tour which begins July 7 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto and ends July 19 in Vancouver at GM Place. Aguilera will play in Saskatoon July 14, Pollstar said.
The cross-country jaunt will likely be sponsored by YTV, a publicist for the network said yesterday.
Aguilera, 19, is the latest teen sensation to bowl over the pop music world. Since the June release of her self-titled debut album, she has enjoyed two No. 1 hits, Genie in a Bottle and What a Girl Wants, and sold nearly seven million CDs.
She's been all over television, too, appearing during the half-time show at the Super Bowl, on the American Music Awards, the MTV Music Video Awards and at the Grammys, where she was named best new artist over her friend and teen-pop rival, Britney Spears.
Like Spears, Aguilera has been aiming at pop stardom from a very young age. She appeared on Star Search at age nine and was a Mouseketeer on The New Mickey Mouse Club along with Spears, Felicity star Keri Russell and 'N Sync's Justin Timberlake and J.C.
