PARIS HILTON

Alexisonfire frontman burning bright
By SHERRI WOOD - Toronto Sun

Alexisonfire with Dallas Green in centre.

Dallas Green answers the phone at his parent's house in St. Catharines the day after the final Alexisonfire show of their six-night, sold-out Toronto club run last week.

His voice is raspy and he says he's "feeling really tired."

It's no surprise.

The 26-year-old singer/songwriter/pianist/guitarist has had quite the year.

Of course, he has been busy with the pre-eminent, Juno-winning screamo outfit Alexisonfire, who've been on tour for the past six months in support of their 2006 release, Crisis.

And then there's City And Colour, the singer's massively popular solo side project that took off in 2006 with his slickly produced, heart-on-sleeve acoustic effort, Sometimes.

For his solo work, Green scooped up various awards and nominations this year, including artist of the year at the Indie Awards, an MMVA people's choice award and a CASBY for favourtie new artist. City And Colour was also nominated for a fave new indie release CASBY -- but Alexisonfire took that one home.

Two Alexisonfire albums went platinum this year. City And Colour's Sometimes did, too.

"To be given three platinum records with my parents there -- it's so over the top for us and so beyond what any of us expected," Green says. "I don't even know how to begin to explain what this year has meant to me. It's so scary though, because we've done so well, we don't know what we could do next."

As if that wasn't enough, The Grace, his contribution to Daniel Victor's collaborative Neverending White Lights project, which sold out three nights at the Drake Hotel last week, has taken local radio and video markets by storm and also got an MMVA nod this year.

But it's the City And Colour stuff that's really taken him off guard.

"That City And Colour thing taking off is really, really frightening," he says. "I never even expected those songs to come out and now I'm staring at a platinum record at my parent's house. It's crazy."

There's definitely a Dallas craze right now -- bordering on Dallas overload -- something the singer is not naive about.

"I could not be more afraid of that," he says. "All the success has been great, but at the same time, I'm really worried people will just get sick of me. I'd love to lay low for a while, but at the same time, my personality just doesn't allow for it. My dad always says he can't believe that I can come off a six-month tour and sit in my room and play guitar."

Laying low is definitely not part of the plan for 2007. Alexisonfire has two U.S. and two European tours, plus an Australian tour on the agenda. They'll record the next record and Green says he might record a City And Colour record in 2007 as well.

"Things are going well, so I'm just gonna roll with it," he says.

Presumably until he burns himself out.

"Well it's better to burn out than to fade away," Green says. "But I won't fade away 'cause I'll know when it's time to stop."
