CANNES -- David Stewart makes his directorial debut with Honest, a swinging '60s caper flick that made its Cannes debut at a post-midnight special presentation in the wee hours last night.
Stewart, Annie Lennox's partner in the reunited band The Eurythmics, cast three of four members of the All Saints all-female pop group as his femme leads.
There's a Canadian connection in All Saints, a group that has generated Spice Girls comparisons in Britain the past two years.
Sisters Natalie and Nicole Appleton originally come from the GTA -- Natalie, 27, from Mississauga and Nicky, 24, from Hamilton. The sisters' parents are divorced. They moved to Britain 20 years ago.
"It's very boy-meets-girl, exploding into a psychedelic spiral," Stewart told The Hollywood Reporter about his movie.
Because of sex and drug content, no one in Britain under age 18 will be allowed to see the film when it debuts a week tomorrow.
Honest portrays the three pop stars as bank robbers. The controversial drug scene occurs during a festival when Nicole's character takes LSD. Rumours say Natalie has been flooded with film offers after a stellar performance in the film.
