Tori Amos splits with long-time label
By JAM! Music

Singer-songwriters Tori Amos and Poe and the rock group Collective Soul have all left Atlantic Records.

Billboard.com reports that the three acts exited the label as key executives -- including David Kahne, who produced Paul McCartney's new album "Driving Rain" -- departed. In addition, the label's dance subsidy Strictly Rhythm has been closed after a mere nine months of operation.

Amos -- whom Billboard reports is negotiating a new deal with Epic Records -- has sold 5.5 million copies of her six Atlantic releases. She recently issued the all-covers set "Strange Little Girls". After eight weeks of release, the album is currently languishing at #146 in the U.S.

In Canada, "Strange Little Girls" debuted Sept. 23 at #8, selling 10,329 copies its first week, but quickly fell out of the top 10 and currently sits at #126.

The move is especially strange because Amos is still on the road in the U.S. through Nov. 20 supporting the album, with European dates to follow. She's also set to appear on Craig Kilborn's "Late Late Show" on CBS this Friday night.

Collective Soul, which have sold six million albums Stateside, asked to be released from their contract early, with two albums remaining in the pact, band manager Farshid Arshid told Billboard.

The group's most recent release, "7even Year Itch: Greatest Hits 1994--2001," debuted at #50 in the U.S. It fared considerably better in Canada, where it debuted at #10 and currently sits at #63.

Meanwhile, Poe's manager Paul Fishkin said the singer was surprised by Atlantic's move, since the company had recently exercised an option on her next album and was preparing to release a new single from her latest album, "Haunted." The album's highest U.S. chart placing was #115.
