Monkeys, Winehouse top Mercury noms

Arctic Monkeys

The Arctic Monkeys, Amy Winehouse and Dizzee Rascal are among the nominees vying for this year's Nationwide Mercury Prize, NME reports.

The Monkeys are looking to become the first band to win the award twice with their latest album, "Favourite Worst Nightmare." They took home the '06 honours with last year's "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not."

Bookmakers have already listed the Sheffield foursome as 4-1 joint favourites along with Amy Winehouse for her chart-topping album "Back to Black."

Other nominees for the British music award, styled after literature's Pulitzer Prize, include the Klaxons, Maps, The View, Jamie T, Bat For Lashes, Young Knives, Fionn Regan, New Young Pony Club and Basquiat Strings.

Albums in the running for this year must have been released between July 18, 2006 and July 9, 2007. All musical genres are eligible.

The winner will be announced on September 4.
