Arden gets in the act
By ANIKA VAN WYK

Calgary singing sensation Jann Arden's list of occupations already includes singer, songwriter and restauranteur. But she's considering adding to the list.

Jann Arden, movie star?

"I'm doing some auditions. I'm looking to do some little cameo parts . I'm settled enough with myself to do it," says Arden while sitting in one of the booths at her 17th Ave. S.W. diner, the Arden.

"You know, something like me as Bo Derek. Or me as William Shatner. And I'm a good Marlon Brando -- I could do Godfather 4," says the quick-witted, always hilarious Arden.

Though she jokes about her possible venture into the celluloid world, she's already gotten some serious nibbles, including a private audition for the next Adam Sandler movie, Little Nicky.

"Thank gawd I didn't get it because it would have been the lead," she quips.

The casting crew called her management back and said they liked Arden's audition but were concerned with her lack of acting experience. She didn't get the part, nor did she get to meet the funnyman with the $20-million paycheques.

"He's playing the devil's son who wants to do good," says Arden, whose fourth studio album Blood Red Cherry will be in stores next month.

While we'll still have to wait before seeing Arden on the big screen, we'll be able to hear her soon.

Her hit Good Mother will be included in Sharon Stone's upcoming film Beautiful Joe.

Good Mother will also resurface in June on fellow Albertan and Arden friend Terri Clark's next album.

The CD, which is tentatively titled No Fear, will include a more acoustic version of the song which praises the singer's mother and life in general.

"I'm flattered (Clark wants to record it), but I had a weird reaction," admits Arden.

"Terri said: 'Oh, you don't seem happy. I won't do it if you don't want me to.' But it's about good will.

"It's just that with (lyrics such as): 'I've got money in my pocket, and I like the colour of my hair,' it's just so me."

The fact Clark is a friend helped Arden let go of the song and hearing that people are loving the new version also lifts her spirits.

"She's getting such a huge response to it and that says a lot to me ... that it's a good song.

"Good Mother has not seen its last day," she says proudly.

And judging by the new tunes on Blood Red Cherry, we won't be seeing the end of Arden's music any time soon.

The Sun will publish its discussion with Jann about Blood Red Cherry next month.
