Arden leaves 'em happy
By ANIKA VAN WYK -- Calgary Sun

Jann Arden knows how to make her hometown audience content.

On a tour to promote her third and latest album Happy?, the Calgary singer-songwriter packed the Jack Singer Concert Hall last night.

Arden admitted to the crowd that she has been horribly nervous leading up to the show -- but she had nothing to worry about. The crowd loved her.

From the opening number, Good Mother, from her phenomenally successful second album Living Under June, Arden was everything one can expect from a local hero.

One of the biggest treats about an Arden concert is her marvellous sense of humor.

With a perfectly dry delivery, she confessed some of her nervousness was based on the fact that the audience was filled with friends and former lovers. The down-to-earth artist also joked about the lack of choreography in her show.

Despite the lack of intricate dance moves, Arden showed enough musical talent to deliver a fantastic show.

The night was filled with songs from her three albums -- Time for Mercy, Living Under June and Happy?

The Steve Pineo Trio opened the evening with a relaxed, acoustic set.

This local group is reminiscent of a three-strong Simon and Garfunkel, as they bounced from folk to rock, all delivered with strong harmonies.
