EDMONTON -- Ladies and gentlemen, performing tonight in the hallowed space of the Francis Winspear Centre for Music, for the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra's Masters Series, will be the acclaimed violin trio from Vienna ... the Arrogant Worms.
Better check the playbill again, Martha. Either the ESO has hit a new low - taking any gig they can get to prepare for Grzegorz "the Unpronounceable" Nowak's threat of a new orchestra - or they're pushing the symphonic envelope. We favour the latter. The ESO is boldly going where no orchestra has gone before, which works out because the Arrogant Worms have never performed with a symphony. Neither arrogant, nor actually members of the platyhelminth species, the Toronto comedy trio joins an elite group of ESO collaborators that includes Procol Harum, Spirit of the West and Tommy Banks. Imagine the haunting strains of flutes and earthy bassoons as these words waft through the auditorium: "You can unzip all my floppy files and spin my CD-ROM! I wanna log in to you so I can prove my love is true ... Be my laptop dancer, I got lots of RAM for you. I wanna log in to you!"
