J.Lo, Beasties flop on charts

Love? J.Lo wasn't feeling any of it on the Canadian album charts this week.

Neither were the Beastie Boys, whose long-awaited studio album also received a lukewarm reception from music buyers.

Jennifer Lopez's "Love?," which has been plugged repeatedly on "American Idol," premiered at No. 2 with 14,000 in sales, while the Beasties' "Hot Sauce Committee Part 2" came in at No. 3, with only 12,000 in sales.

The Beasties numbers fell far short of the first week sales for their last proper album, "To the Five Boroughs," which rang up a No. 1 tally of 26,000 in 2004.

At the top once again was Adele's "21," which collected another 22,000 in sales. It has now ratcheted up an astounding 206,000 since being released 11 weeks ago.

She also snapped up the top spot south of the border again, selling 155,000 copies of "21” in the U.S., according to Billboard.com.

Meanwhile, the biggest gainer this week went to Ginette Reno and her disc "La Musique en Moi," which stormed up nine positions to No. 4.

Marie-Elaine Thibert's "Je Suis" checked in at No. 5, likewise with Pascale Picard's "Letter To No One" at No. 6, and Richard Desjardins' "L'Existoire" spiralled down five levels to No. 7.

Wrapping up the top 10 was Fleet Foxes' "Helplessness Blues" at No. 8, Roch Voisine's "Americana 2" at No. 9, and the charity compilation "Songs For Japan" at No. 10.

In the U.S., the Beastie Boys placed second, followed by "Now 38" in third, Fleet Foxes in fourth, and Jennifer Lopez in a distant fifth.
