Takin' care of business
Bachman in his own wordsBy RANDALL KING
"I don't know how it happened, the Internet was a growing thing and I had started it up basically for guitar guys. Now I have maybe 30 albums for sale on there and, basically, I released all the Guess Who albums because there was no Guess Who Web site, so my Web site is full of all this stuff. "Last month, my Web site had almost a half a million hits, between 450,000 and 500,000 a month. And we're shippin' out the merch. "But we're not making any money. It's kind of a fan thing. "I'm even getting requests for my Axe album, the ill-fated, el bombo album of guitar instrumentals from 1970 that went nowhere. And there's people that want this. I don't know why. "But I'm like that, too. I'll buy some weird Neil Young track or some Beatles album that was taped in the basement in Germany, and it's terrible, but I want a copy. "And anyway, if I don't do it, nobody else is going to do it, and it's not going to get done." On the possibility of a Bachman-Turner Overdrive reunion: "I've heard about it on the Internet And I don't want to be real stupid and say no. I said that for 20 years about the Guess Who and here I am in our third year, and it's getting better than ever. "But BTO's 30th anniversary would be 2003, so there is a possibility of something. I have no idea where I'm going to be at that time with the Guess Who but, like I said, I can't say, 'Never.' It's an exciting thing to think about getting back together with the guys and doing something, one concert, maybe in Winnipeg. Anything's possible." On the impact of Gary MacLean's fight with throat cancer: "I think if Burton had any real close friend that was like a brother to him, it's Gary MacLean. "They roomed together, they toured together, they did that radio show together. There's a very long relationship there. "We were all together a few weeks ago for a couple of dates in Minneapolis, and I could just see everyone's feeling a little down because it is quite a shock. He's in the prime of life, really a good guy, a good entertainer and a good musicologist." |
