Barenaked Ladies Are Me is being released in multiple formats today. But not all formats.
"We didn't put it out on cassette or 8-track, so we have left some bases uncovered," drummer Tyler Stewart said.
So for anyone still driving a Duster, you're out of luck.
For everyone else, Barenaked Ladies Are Me is available as a standard 13-song CD, but also in two different digital packages. One features the 13 songs from the physical CD plus two bonus tracks, while the other is a deluxe edition with 27 songs.
"It's making sure people who listen to music in a different way than I do still have access to it," vocalist Steven Page said.
"I don't listen to music on a cell phone. To me the whole system seems clunky, and kind of fidgety. But there are lots of people out there and who am I to say they shouldn't listen to it in various ways?"
That said, Barenaked Ladies continue to callously disregard the potentially lucrative 8-track market.
"With our first album, which was fairly hotly anticipated at the time, I thought the coolest thing would be to get the record company to release it two weeks early, but only on 8-track," Page recalled. "They laughed ... but they didn't do it."
