Chipping in for Snacktime!
By JASON MACNEIL -- Special to Sun Media

During the making of Snacktime!, Barenaked Ladies asked people to leave a message in their voice mailbox with their favourite snack.

The messages kept piling in -- from comedian Harland Williams, Janeane Garofalo and David Suzuki to musicians Sarah McLachlan, Gordon Lightfoot, Tragically Hip's Gord Downie and Rush bassist Geddy Lee.

"There were a couple of days with nothing," Steven Page says. "But Geddy Lee was the first one, he called in and said, 'Hi, I'm Geddy Lee and I like BBQ potato chips.'"

While they're not touring behind the record, Barenaked Ladies have performed a handful of in-store shows in the U.S. and Canada.

Both Page and Kevin Hearn say the band might include some of the Snacktime! songs into their live set but are considering doing some family shows in certain cities during the day before taking the stage for the proper evening gigs when they tour next year.

Page is getting a lot of feedback from kids, including his brother's 2-year-old son.

"I was out with my brother's family and my 2-year-old nephew was singing Vegetable Town over and over all the way through dinner."
