Big Country singer Stuart Adamson was laid to rest Saturday in Scotland, and was memorialized before a soccer match by his favourite team.
Adamson was found dead Dec. 16 in a Hawaii hotel room in what has been reported as a suicide. He had endured a lengthy battle with alcohol and had gone missing for several weeks from his Nashville home.
The Australian music website Undercover reports that the funeral was held Saturday at Dunfermline Crematorium in Scotland, with his family and bandmates in attendance. His favorite song, Nils Lofgren's "Shine Silently," was played during the service. The number includes this poignant verse.
People at the door, people on the phone,
Same old story no time of my own
Still you shine, silently
Nothin' left to say, nothin' left to prove
When it's said and done there's nothin' left but you, babe
Shine silently.
Meanwhile, a moment of silence was also observed before a match at East End Park featuring Adamson's favourite team, Dunfermline Football Club.
A memorial service for fans is planned for Jan. 26, Undercover said. (More on Big Country)
