Album Review: Blink 182

Take off your Pants and Jacket
By JANE STEVENSON

TAKE OFF YOUR PANTS AND JACKET
Blink 182
(MCA-Universal)

For three punk rockers from San Diego who like to get naked, is there a better album title?

Working with producer Jerry Finn on their fourth studio record, the trio rock fast and hard over the course of 13 songs.

They also revel in their trademark rudeness on such songs as Happy Holidays, You Bastard and Reckless Abandon.

But in terms of actual songwriting, they best express real teen angst on such songs as Story Of A Lonely Guy: "She makes me feel like it's raining outside, And when the storm's gone I'm all torn up inside, I'm always nervous on days like this, like the prom, I get too scared to move 'cause I'm a f---in' boy."

Then there's the falling-in-love-at-a-concert anthem, The Rock Show: "What we said we gonna move to Vegas, I remember the look her mother gave us, Seventeen without a purpose or direction, we don't owe anyone a f---ing explanation."

Unusually poignant too is Stay Together For The Kids, "This house is haunted, it's so pathetic, I'm ripe with things to say, The words rot and fall away, What stupid poem could fix this home, I'd read it every day."

Blink 182 are touring this summer and a festival date in August at Molson Park in Barrie is expected to be announced soon.
