CRUSH
By MIKE ROSS

CRUSH
Bon Jovi
(Universal)

OK, maybe you were expecting Bon Jovi, in which case here it is.

Jon Bon has taken a break from his movie career to do some acting in a musical idiom. The results are just as effective.

On Crush, he plays an '80s-style rock 'n' roller who likes to party hard (One Wild Night) and live life to the fullest (It's My Life), although he'll never forget his small-town, down-to-earth, blue-collar past (Two Story Town). He's a real man's man (Just Older), who usually expresses himself in a dramatic rasp (every song here) - and yet isn't afraid to show his sensitive side (Thank You For Loving Me). Of course, he's a real hit with ladies (I Got the Girl).

Say what you will about this band. Even at the risk of being out of style, they stick to their guns. That takes guts.
