NATHAN/MICHAEL/SHAWN/WANYA
By MIKE BELL
NATHAN/MICHAEL/SHAWN/WANYA Boyz II Men It was only a matter of time before the Men answered the Boys. With authority. Three years after the release of their last album, Evolution, the R&B foursome that helped spawn the boy band extravaganza currently clogging up the pop charts is back with one stylin' mother of a makeout hit machine. N/M/S/W takes suave and smoothes it out into 14 tracks of soul-filled eazy listening, that are somehow more authentic and easier to swallow than those crooned by their younger contemporaries. In fact, like their offspring, 98*, Boyz II Men kick off their latest with an uptempo Latin-tinged track called Beautiful Women (it's a La Vida-fied Hey Ladies). But from there, the comparisons cease. The more mature crew set the bar a little higher and swing a little cooler with the beautiful finger-snap ballad Dreams, the doo-wop of I Do (sure to be the first dance at weddings for years to come) and Step On Up, a funked-up disco track that should have more than a few bodies movin'. When all is said and done and all of the harmonizing has subsided, the message is more than clear: Boys, respect your elders. Track Listing
