Album Review: Capital B

COMPLETELY BLUE FOR YOU
By ANDREW CARVER

COMPLETELY BLUE FOR YOU
Capital B
(Independent)

Completely Blue for You is a scrappy, sometimes swinging, occasionally lascivious album from Ottawa blues guitarist Brian McPhillips -- a.k.a. Capital B.

A credit to the DIY creed, McPhillips recorded the album in bits and pieces over 21 months as the money to book studio time became available.

Capital B's No. 1 asset is his strong voice, which is the equal of a number of more established blues musicians, and holds the album together as a host of local musicians help out on the instrumental side.

With well-written songs -- I dare anyone not to empathize with the lyrics of That Little Voice Inside Me -- quality musicianship and good production (mostly at at Ottawa's Bova Sound Studio), there's everything to like.

Look behind the somewhat jury-rigged cover and you've got a very capable local release.
