It seems Canadians weren't inclined to put Mariah Carey's new album on their Christmas wish lists.

"Charmbracelet," her first album since signing with hip-hop label Island Def Jam earlier this year, struggled out of the gate on the Canadian album charts, debuting at No. 30, according to data compiled by Nielsen SoundScan.

In comparison, Carey's critically panned 2001 album "Glitter" debuted at No. 4 in Canada.

"Charmbracelet" had a little more charm in the U.S., where it aired at No. 3 with first week sales of 241,200.

Back in Canada, Shania Twain captured the top spot for the third straight week, with album sales of "Up!" reaching 75,700. The "MuchDance 2003" (31,800) collection moved from fourth to second, Eminem's "8 Mile" soundtrack (31,100) and the compilation "Big Shiny Tunes 7" both slipped one notch to third and fourth respectively, and Avril Lavigne's "Let Go" (27,900) rose one position to fifth.

The Christmas push helped both Elvis Presley and The Rolling Stones make significant chart moves, with "Elvis: 30 #1 Hits" (22,300) rising from ninth to sixth, and "Forty Licks" (18,300) elevating from 14th to seventh.

Jennifer Lopez's latest effort "This Is Me...Then" (17,900) dropped to eighth after debuting in fifth last week, Quebec artist Jean Leloup entered the charts in ninth with his album "La Vallee Des Reputations" (17,600), and Josh Groban's "Josh Groban" (17,200) re-entered the top ten at No. 10.

Notable chart movement included some poor second week showings: 2Pac's "Better Dayz" tumbled from seventh to No. 28, Tim McGraw's "Tim McGraw & The Dancehall Doctors" fell from No. 18 to No. 36, and System Of A Down's "Steal This Album!" spiralled 25 spots to No. 38.

Other chart debuts included the compilations "Women & Songs 6" and "Big Shiny 90s" at No. 11 and No. 43, and "More Music From 8 Mile" at No. 45.

In the U.S., Shania Twain (317,000) stayed at No. 1, Tim McGraw (250,500) remained in second, the compilation album "Now 11" (222,300) held steady in fourth, and "8 Mile" (220,700) dropped two spots to fifth.

Here are the 10 best-selling albums in Canada, according to Nielsen SoundScan:
