Strong first-week sales of new releases by Mariah Carey and Jann Arden couldn't topple 50 Cent from the top of the Canadian album charts.
The rapper's latest disc, "The Massacre," remained the hottest album in the country for a seventh consecutive week, selling 11,700 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan Canada's sales data.
The album held off a strong challenge from Mariah Carey's comeback disc "The Emancipation of Mimi," which premiered at No. 2 on sales of 11,000, and Jann Arden's self-titled set (10,900) which entered at No. 3, making it her best debut ever.
Elsewhere in the Canadian Top 10, Michael Buble's "It's Time" dropped from No. 2 to No. 4, Green Day's "American Idiot" fell one spot to No. 5, and Jack Johnson's "In Between Dreams" remained at No. 6.
After 21 weeks on the chart, Gwen Stefani's "Love.Angel.Music.Baby" held steady at No. 7, and Beck's "Guero" sank another three spots this week to No. 8.
Garbage's new effort "Bleed Like Me," the follow-up to 2001's "Beautiful Garbage," came in at No. 9, and Blue Rodeo's "Are You Ready," after entering at No. 3 last week, tumbled down seven spots to No. 10.
Other notable debuts included Mudvayne's "Lost and Found" at No. 13 and Martha Wainwright's self-titled album at No. 18.
In the U.S., Mariah Carey landed at No. 1 with 400,000 in sales, followed by Mudvayne in second, 50 Cent in third, Garbage in fourth, and Faith Evans' "The First Lady" in fifth.
