Johnny Cash's last songs to be released
By -- Toronto Sun

Great news for fans of Johnny Cash's American Recordings series with producer Rick Rubin.

A fifth instalment, American V: A Hundred Highways, is due in stores on July 4.

Apparently, Cash and Rubin finished recording the last of 60 tracks a week before the country legend died in 2003.

A Hundred Highways will feature a dozen songs from Rubin's studio in L.A. and Cash's cabin in Nashville, including the last song Cash wrote, The 309, "a poignant and amusing train yarn," according to USA Today.

"It's an amazingly sad album," Rubin told USA Today. "At times, it's hard to get through, but it's really beautiful. It's remarkable to hear an artist of his stature being so vulnerable and open and sounding strong so late in his life. I don't think there's ever been an album like this."

Even better news is that there might be yet one more in the series, because Rubin is compiling tracks for American VI, which could be released next year.
