Keshia Chante
2U
Sony BMG
Not a girl, not yet a woman. Like any 18-year-old, Keshia Chante is between worlds. But the Ottawa vocal prodigy turns it to her advantage on her sophomore album 2U.
Most of the time, she plays to the teen scene with sweet soul-pop singles about overprotective parents, first kisses at the movies and finding puppy love at the mall. But now and then, she works it to the older crowd with gyrating hip-hop club thumpers that are sort of about dancing and sort of not, if you follow us.
Either way, Chante gets points for her confident delivery, emotive pipes and songcraft -- all of which are impressive for her age without being offputtingly precocious.
With 2U, Chante isn't stuck between worlds; she's enjoying the best of both.
