Album Review: Cher

THE GREATEST HITS
By DAVE VEITCH

THE GREATEST HITS
Cher

Cher has released countless best-ofs, but this 19-track retrospective nicely updates her story by including this year's chartbuster Believe and its retro-disco followup Strong Enough. The album is not comprehensive -- Dark Lady, Half Breed, Take Me Home and After All are among the notable omissions -- but it does span her entire genre-hopping career: Reaching back for some Sonny and Cher sides and early solo singles, including her folk-rock reading of Bob Dylan's All I Really Want To Do; but concentrating on her late-'80s, early-'90s rock makeover, when she belted out soft-metal empowerment anthems If I Could Turn Back Time and I Found Someone.
