LIVING PROOF
Cher
(Wea-Warner)
She's back.
That one-named wonder they call Cher builds on the success of her huge 1998 comeback album with another frothy collection of dance music, in stores Tuesday.
Working with the same producers who turned the Grammy-winning title track from Believe into the biggest-selling single by a female artist ever in the U.K., the
55-year-old singer delivers one well-produced dance song after another on this relationship-oriented album. Even if some of the titles are pretty cheesy.
Highlights include Alive Again, (This Is) A Song For The Lonely, A Different Kind Of Love Song, Love So High, Body To Body, Heart To Heart, Love Is A Lonely Place Without You, Love One Another and When The Money's Gone.
Other collaborators are Rick Nowels (Madonna, NSYNC) and Diane Warren (Celine Dion).
The leadoff track, The Music's No Good Without You, comes across like an ELO reject, but the rest is dance-floor heaven.
So far Cher has no tour plans, but given the extravaganza she mounted for Believe, it's hard to believe she could stay away from the stage for long.
