'Idol' Clarkson makes chart debut
By JOHN WILLIAMS

"American Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson has scored once again -- this time with her debut album.

Clarkson, who was crowned champion last September on the hit TV show, had her album "Thankful" enter the Canadian charts in seventh on sales of 10,500. The album had a bigger impact on the U.S. charts, where it debuted at No. 1 on sales of 297,300.

Fleetwood Mac also made a foray into the top 10 with their first studio album in 15 years. "Say You Will" entered the charts in eighth with 8,600 in sales.

Meanwhile, the top two positions on the charts remained the same: The soundtrack to the popular Quebec reality show "Star Academie" (47,100) held onto the top spot, while Celine Dion's "One Heart" (13,400) remained well behind in the second position.

Norah Jones's "Come Away With Me" (12,500), Avril Lavigne's "Let Go" (11,900), and 50 Cent's "Get Rich Or Die Tryin'" (11,500) all climbed one notch to third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Linkin Park's "Meteora" (11,200) struggled in its fourth week on the charts, sinking from third to sixth.

The White Stripes' "Elephant" (8,400) fell from eighth to ninth, and Shania Twain's "Up!" (8,200) went down to 10th.

Other debuts included Lucinda Williams' "World Without Tears" at No. 26, Pete Yorn's "Day I Forgot" at No. 47, and the Canadian "Peace Songs" charity album at No. 51.

In the U.S., 50 Cent's "New Breed" entered in second, followed by Fleetwood Mac in third, Darryl Worley's "Have You Forgotten" in fourth, and 50 Cent's "Get Rich Or Die Tryin'" in fifth.

Here are the 10 best-selling albums in Canada, according to Nielsen SoundScan:

1. VARIOUS ARTISTS -- "STAR ACADEMIE" (47,100)
