Coldplay's latest album "X&Y" continues to burn up the Canadian album charts, holding onto the top spot for a third straight week.
The Brit-rock quartet accomplished the feat despite seeing sales of the disc drop by 50 per cent again this week. Sales of "X&Y" reached over 22,000, down from the 45,000 copies it sold last week.
Coldplay also occupied the No. 1 spot south of the border, selling 186,000 copies of "X&Y" in the U.S., according to Billboard.com.
Back in Canada, The Black Eyed Peas were close behind at No. 2 with "Monkey Business" (21,000), up from No. 4 last week, while The Backstreet Boys had the second week blues, falling one spot to No. 3, and seeing their sales fall to 17,000 from the 40,000 that moved seven days ago.
The Foo Fighters also had a lacklustre week on the charts, falling from No. 3 to No. 4 with 15,000 copies sold, down from 33,000 last week.
Il Divo's self-titled disc was locked into the No. 5 position, while The Offspring's "Greatest Hits" sprung onto the charts at No. 6, marking their best ever debut.
System of a Down's "Mezmerize" occupied the No. 7 spot, Gwen Stefani's "Love.Angel.Music.Baby" rose up two to No. 8, Green Day's "American Idiot" claimed No. 9, and Michael Buble's "It's Time" hung on at No. 10.
Other notable debuts this week included the Transplants "Haunted Cities" at No. 20, Marie-Jo Therio at No. 21, Billy Corgan's "TheFutureEmbrace" at No. 28 and Jully Black's "This Is Me" at No. 34.
In the U.S., Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi" placed second, followed by the Foo Fighters in third, the Black Eyed Peas in fourth, and the Boyz N Da Hood's self-titled debut in fifth.
